CURRICULUM

In the first year of study, students concentrate on formal 2-D and 3-D foundations in art, coupled with drawing, art history, math, science and the humanities. Building on this, second year students add digital imaging, 3-D animation, and/or video. In the third year, students are introduced to a hybrid approach to production and learn to focus a variety of media and methods towards a common goal. The students’ final year ends with a faculty-advised tutorial and project in which the ideas, method of investigation, and execution are determined by the student and culminates in a significant project and exhibition. Many students elect to minor or double major in Computer Science, Business, or Engineering. A few complete their masters degrees while simultaneously receiving their Bachelor of Arts.

The Bachelor of Arts curriculum organizes the courses into several categories: Freshman/Sophomore Humanities (8 courses), the Major Concentration (10 courses), upper-level Electives (9 courses), and the Secondary Concentration (5 courses). Additional requirements include 6 courses covering Mathematics, Science, Computer Science, and Economics or Psychology, and 6 semesters of Physical Education.

COLLABORATIONS WITH SCIENTISTS

Stevens is one of the leading technological universities in the country with an established reputation for innovation in science, engineering, and technology. Against this backdrop, students in the Art & Technology program will have opportunities to find unique ways of merging their interest in science and technology with their passion for art, an opportunity not available in most academic institutions. Many students elect to minor or “double major” in Computer Science, Business, or Engineering. A few complete their Masters degree while simultaneously receiving their Bachelor of Arts.
